Adjunct Faculty Application
Thank you for your interest in applying to be an instructor with Metro Baltimore Seminary! MBS hires instructors who are practitioners with several years of pastoral and/or teaching experience. Based on this philosophical approach, we have made the decision to only hire adjunct faculty who are currently (or retired from) actively working in pastoral ministry and related ministry fields.
Qualifications
Specific Qualifications:
Must affirm the seminary’s Mission Statement and Statement of Faith. (All instructors must be of Reformed theological conviction and affirm either the Westminster Confession of Faith or the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith.)
Must teach in accordance with the doctrines and confession(s) of faith as expressed in the seminary Statement of Faith.
Must be approved to teach by the seminary’s Academic Committee.
General Qualifications:
Must possess an M.Div. or similar degree; doctorate is preferred, but not necessary.
Must display a vibrant, mature faith in Christ accompanied by Christ-like character.
At least 5 years of vocational experience in their field of graduate work after earning graduate degree.
At least 5 years teaching experience in pastoral ministry and/or in a related ministry field (can be the same as the required vocational experience above).
Prior teaching experience in undergraduate, graduate, and/or seminary contexts is encouraged, but not required.
Application Process

(1) Application packet
Please prepare an application packet with the following documents and email them to the Academic Dean (email address available on the Faculty & Leadership page) in one email.
Current CV (not a resume) listing education, ministry experience, teaching experience, research and publication experience (if any), and additional employment.
Unofficial transcripts from all institutions where undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degrees were earned.
Narrative Document - 1 document that includes the following:
Brief introduction of yourself, your current ministry, and why you are interested in teaching at MBS. (2-3 paragraphs maximum, please.)
Statement of affirmation “without exception” of the MBS Mission Statement and Statement of Faith. If any exception is taken, please explain your exception.
Statement of personal salvation, relationship to Christ, and call to pastoral ministry or related ministry vocation. (1-2 pages maximum, please.)
Statement of Christian character explaining how you strive to live a vibrant, mature faith in Christ displaying Christ-like character (i.e. spiritual fruit). If there is anything that would believe might disqualify you from pastoral ministry or related ministry, or were you previously disqualified from such ministry and entered a restoration process, please provide a brief explanation. (1 page maximum, please.)
Identification of 3-5 courses you are interested in teaching and why you believe you are qualified to teach these courses. Courses are listed in the current Academic Catalog available for download on the main page of our website. (1-2 pages maximum, please.)
(2) Letters of Recommendation
In addition to the above application packet, please request two (2) letters of recommendation to be sent to the Academic Dean via email. Letters must be written on official letterhead of church or organization, if possible. It is your responsibility to request the letters of recommendation and to provide the Academic Dean’s email to those who are writing your recommendations.
Character and spiritual reference. Current pastor or other church leader charged with oversight of you ministry or to whom you are accountable in your ministry context (regardless of whether your ministry is a staff or volunteer position).
Academic or vocational reference. This could be a member of your doctoral committee, one of your seminary professors, your employer if you are in a vocational field outside of pastoral ministry, or your supervisor at another educational institution where you taught / teach.
